TCL (Tool Command Language) is fast becoming the industry standard for test scripting and automation. Tcl is easy to learn, operates on Unix, Windows and Macintosh platforms, and can be easily embedded or extended. Tcl is also a powerful scripting language and because it's interpreted, it doesn't require a time consuming compilation step.

Many test equipment manufacturers have adopted Tcl to provide customers automation capabilities for their products. Tcl allows users to get more functionality and custom capabilities than GUI interfaces.
In his technical presentation, Mike Freeman will talk about the use of TCL in automated testing environments.

In his talk, Mike will discuss the following topics:

  • An overview of scripting languages

  • The problem with "Vendor Scripting" languages

  • Why Tcl works for test automation

  • Adding extensions to Tcl for custom functionality

  • Data collection and test reporting

  • Using Tcl in Windows Applications
