Jim Farmer has enjoyed a 33-year career of pioneering cable television. Prior to joining Wave7 Optics, Jim was the CTO of Antec. Jim Farmer started his career in cable television communication with Scientific-Atlanta, where he was involved in the development of headend and set-top converter products. He was Principal Engineer during his last seven years with the company. Today, Jim is Chief Technical Officer at Wave7 Optics , where he oversees technology developments and monitors emerging standards to ensure that the company provides all the features and benefits its customers need. He holds a number of patents in converter systems and file servers. Jim was inducted into the SCTE Hall of Fame in 1997, and was inducted into Cable Pioneers in 1998. In 1996, Jim was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the industry by winning the Vanguard Award for Science & Technology. Jim Farmer holds approximately 80 patents in the fields of set top converters, scrambling systems, and video server systems. Farmer has a large number of publications with NCTA, SCTE, and IEEE. Farmer co-authored the book, Modern Cable Television: Video, Voice and Data Communications, published in 1999, which won the Cable Center 2000 Cable Book Award. Currently he is the President of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society, and on the program committee for both the NCTA Convention, and SCTE Expo. Farmer graduated in 1967 with a BSEE, and in 1968 with a MSEE, both from the University of South Florida. |
